The World Bank Group has named Makhtar Diop as Managing Director and Executive Vice President to the International Financial Corporation (IFC).
The World Bank Group has named Makhtar Diop as Managing Director and Executive Vice President to the International Financial Corporation (IFC).
Diop, the first African to hold this position, will be responsible for executing IFC strategies and strengthen partnerships. His appointment will be effective on March 1st.
A native of Senegal, Diop has served as the former Minister of Economy and Finance in the country. With almost two decades of experience at the World Bank, he held the position of World Bank County Director twice, then in May 2012, became the Vice President for the Africa Region for six years. Currently, Diop holds the title of Vice President for Infrastructure at the World Bank, where he manages critical projects in energy, transport and digital development.
“Makhtar Diop has deep development and finance experience and a career of energetic leadership and service to developing countries in both public and private sectors,” David Malpass, the current President of the World Bank, said in a press release. “Makhtar’s skills at IFC will help the World Bank Group continue our rapid response to the global crisis and help build a green, resilient, inclusive recovery.”
