MasterClass Recruits a New CFO Amid C-Suite Expansion

MasterClass has a new CFO, Valen Tong, who joins the educational streaming platform from Beauty for All Industries.

Tong’s new role places her in charge of the company’s finance organization, where she will help to scale the business and drive long-term growth. She will report directly to Founder and CEO David Rogier.

"Valen has experience scaling breakthrough companies, as well as a deep understanding of our consumer," Rogier said in the company’s announcement. "She is the right person to lead us through our next phase of growth, growth that will unlock enhanced learning opportunities for our current members and new audiences."

Tong brings c-suite finance experience from her previous role as the CFO for Beauty for All Industries, where she was instrumental in scaling the beauty subscription business to over $1 billion in revenue.

She has also held senior roles at Brookstone, Procter & Gamble, Graphic Packaging International, Arthur Andersen, and PwC.

Tong joins MasterClass on the back of a banner year for the company which saw its valuation triple after a $225 million Series F funding round in May 2021. At the time, the company said it would continue to build out its c-suite and expand its workforce from 380 employees to more than 500 in 2021, including an office in eastern Canada.
