Every week we highlight a company leading the charge in transparency and making waves in their industry. This week we are featuring Buffer.

Founded in 2010 on a (probably) rainy night in Birmingham, UK, Joel Gascoigne first imagined Buffer to make tweeting easier and more efficient after being frustrated with the tools available for scheduling tweets. Alongside co-founder Leo Widrich, Buffer has since evolved into a comprehensive social media management platform serving small businesses, creators, and individuals. Buffer offers features like scheduling, analytics, engagement tools, and even micro-site building to help users grow their online presence.

The platform supports 11 social media networks and includes integrations with tools like Canva, Dropbox, Google, etc. Even after Widrich’s departure in 2017, Buffer has continued to grow—reporting $31.1 million in revenue in 2024 and serving over 77,000 paying customers. Given the company’s origin story and nomadic roots, in 2013, Buffer boldly decided to go fully remote, allowing its team to work from anywhere. Today, the company has 73 teammates across 17 countries, setting itself apart with a broader commitment to transparency, including publicly sharing employee salaries and operating on a four-day workweek.
