Petco Adds Three New Board Members Amid Digital Shift

In search of digital transformation expertise and further diversity, Petco’s Board of Directors added three new members: Former Gap CFO Sabrina Simmons, Best Buy President and COO Mike Mohan, and Mary Sullivan, who serves as the Senior Managing Director & Chief Talent Officer at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments).

Both Simmons and Mohan will serve on the animal health and wellness chain’s Audit Committee while Sullivan will take a spot on the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.

In a press release, Petco CEO Ron Coughlin welcomed the new board members said, "They bring best-in-class experience across retail transformation, finance and human capital management that not only complements our existing board members but will also accelerate execution of our unique position as a true end to end omnichannel health and wellness ecosystem for pets. They also further our goal of having one of the most diverse boards in America."

The trio will build on pet care chain’s previous digital-savvy additions including former Facebook CMO Gary Briggs and Twilio’s top HR executive Christy Lake. The company’s Board of Directors now stands at 11 members, including four independent directors.

Earlier this year Petco closed its IPO on the Nasdaq under the ticker "WOOF," and received net proceeds from the offering of around $939 million. This new funding will allow the company to continue digital efforts like its app refresh in December 2020, that brought performance and design enhancements as well as new functionality.
