President and Co-founder of Elon Musk’s Neuralink Steps Down

Max Hodak, Co-founder of Neuralink, tweeted that he has stepped down from his position as President of the company on Saturday. Neuralink has not named a successor.

“I am no longer at Neuralink (as of a few weeks ago). I learned a ton there and remain a huge cheerleader for the company! Onward to new things,” Hodak wrote on Twitter.

Hodak, Musk and several others founded Neuralink in 2016. The San Francisco based company is developing brain interfaces, “that will help people with paralysis and inventing new technologies that will expand our abilities, our community, and our world,” according to its company biography.

The goal of the company is to use artificial intelligence to treat serious brain disorders. In 2019, the company had reported that they successfully implanted a chip into the brain of a monkey, and that the monkey could use the chip to control computers. It was later revealed that this was already proven to be true by a group of scientists in 2002.

Nueralink has received criticism from the scientific and medical community. MIT Technology Review said, “It is unclear how serious the company is about treating diseases at all,” and has pointed out that “most of the company’s medical claims remain highly speculative.”
