President of MGM Television Steps Down

MGM Studios confirmed Wednesday that Steve Stark is leaving his role as president of MGM/UA Television and returning to producing.

First reported by Variety, Stark’s exit comes almost a year after he was extended a new contract that made him president of the newly created television label at MGM.

Stark was one of the few executives leftover from a previous MGM regime that was switched up once chairman Mark Burnett took over the TV operation in 2015. Stark, who joined the studio in 2011, grew MGM’s presence in television with scripted shows like "The Handmaid’s Tale" and "Fargo." His new role will include an exclusive production deal with MGM/UA Television.

Before Stark joined MGM in 2011, he led Steve Stark Productions, his own production company that had an overall deal with Universal Television. Series he’s worked on included USA Network’s "Fairly Legal" and NBC’s "The Event." He also served as an executive producer on CBS’s long-running show "Medium," which starred Emmy-winning actress Patricia Arquette.

MGM Studios said they plan to announce more details surrounding Stark’s role in the coming days. Stark’s old team will continue to work on any on-going projects in the meantime.
