Redbox Selects a Streaming Veteran To Turbocharge Tech Efforts

Redbox, the entertainment company known for its movie vending kiosks, has tapped Christina Chu as its VP of Technology to speed up the growth of its digital presence.

Redbox, the entertainment company known for its movie vending kiosks, has tapped Christina Chu as its VP of Technology to speed up the growth of its digital presence.

Chu and her team will be in charge of developing next-generation technologies and implementing product enhancements for the company's kiosk business and growing free streaming platform.

Redbox CTO Stephen Lavin commented that Chu’s expansive end-to-end engineering expertise and domain knowledge in media and streaming platforms will have an immediate impact at the company. He added, "I know she will create and execute product and technology enhancements with the Redbox team that will make the viewing experience on our apps even more enjoyable."

Before joining the Redbox tech team, Chu was in charge of launching Fullscreen Media’s first SVOD product. Before that, she spent over a decade at NBCUniversal, where she served as VP of Media Technology Services. During her career at the media and entertainment behemoth, Chu created a Media Asset Management System and developed a portfolio of software applications.

Redbox is aggressively filling out its streaming platform with a host of new content in a bid to attract more users and speed up its growth. The company has also revealed that it has now added Anthem Sports & Entertainment’s AXS TV Now and Fight Network to its ad-supported live TV streaming platform. It has also rolled out an app that allows its around 40 million users to watch its content on Samsung Smart TVs.
