Volkswagen AG has named Elke Temme as the leader of its newest business area, which covers energy, charging services, and charging infrastructure across all the group’s brands. Temme stepped into her new role as the Head of Charging & Energy at Volkswagen Group Components on January 1.

Thomas Schmall, a member of the Volkswagen AG Board of Management and the CEO of Volkswagen Group Components, stated that with Temme’s hiring “we have won a proven expert in the fields of energy and charging for our company.”

Schmall went on to say, “With her many years of experience and outstanding expertise she will quickly charge up the new business field and thus make a considerable contribution towards moving not only Group Components, but also the whole Group forwards in the field of electric mobility.”

Prior to joining the German auto giant, Temme worked at RWE AG and innogy SE, which was spun off from RWE, where she held various positions throughout her 18-year tenure. She most recently served as COO of innogy eMobility Solutions, a subsidiary that provides cloud-based software solutions and charging hardware to other businesses.

Temme’s work will be crucial to Volkswagen as it is undertakes the largest transformation in company history with massive investments in electromobility, digitalization, and battery technology. The Charging & Energy business area will pool and manage the company’s existing work on energy and charging equipment as it seeks to build out a wide network of charging solutions to power the almost 70 fully electric vehicles the company expects to bring to market by 2030.
