Josiah Berkebile has a wide range of work experience, beginning in 2006 as a Software Engineering Intern at Minitab. In 2008, they worked as a Software Engineering Associate at Lockheed Martin, where they developed a financial database from scratch, prototyped a distributed system with C++, Python, and CORBA, wrote part of an embedded C driver/api, and did some work in a large-scale Java web application. In 2010, they worked as a Jr. Software Engineer at 3M Cogent, where they programmed for fingerprint identification systems using C# .NET 2010, C, C++, COM, and VB6. From 2012 to 2014, they worked as a Software Engineer at Cerner Corporation, where they debugged and troubleshot enterprise Java applications and legacy VB6 applications, C++ servers, and Oracle 11g and 10g databases. Josiah also worked as a software developer for a Ruby on Rails application with a Java service layer. From 2014 to 2016, they worked as a Hadoop Architect at DST Systems, where they wrote predictive analytics MapReduce jobs for Hadoop using Java and translated algorithms provided by data scientists into code. Josiah also wrote research oriented internal web applications in Elm. From 2016 to 2018, they worked as a Senior Big Data Engineer at Pinsight Media, where they wrote Apache Spark data processing pipelines and migrated services from AWS to Azure. From 2018 to 2020, they worked as an Information Architect II at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, where they lead a SCRUM team of developers and assisted in establishing Agile best-practices. Currently, they are a Senior Scala Engineer at 47 Degrees, where they are working with the Typelevel stack on a streaming text categorization application that interacts with Kinesis.

Josiah Berkebile's education history consists of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Engineering from Penn State University, obtained between 2003 and 2008, and a high school diploma from Somerset Area High School. Additionally, Josiah has obtained four certifications from Lightbend, Inc. in August 2021, covering Reactive Architecture(1): Introduction to Reactive Systems, Reactive Architecture(2): Domain Driven Design, Reactive Architecture(3): Reactive Microservices, and Reactive Architecture(4): Building Scalable Systems.
