49 Nord 6 Est - Frac Lorraine

49 Nord 6 Est—FRAC Lorraine presents a rich program of exhibitions, debates, talks, film screenings, concerts, and performances that aims at reflecting the plurality of its surroundings. Operating in a region whose borders have shifted regularly over time, the FRAC Lorraine works at challenging, through a program dedicated to the contemporary arts, hierarchies and canons of the predominantly Western white male tradition in art. The FRAC functions as a space of exchange and debate that fosters creation, reflection, and experimentation as tools for counteracting cultural isolationism. Its activities cover the entire territory of Lorraine, with a concentration at the Hôtel Saint Livier in Metz, and extend to the Grand Est Region. The collection of the FRAC Lorraine, comprising around 1600 artworks, is attentive to the place women artists occupy in the artistic ecosystem. It carries out projects which aim to raise public awareness and critically address their environment. We regularly develop projects in partnership with cultural and social associations based in Moselle and Lorraine, as well as with the art schools of Metz, Nancy and Épinal, the Paul Verlaine University, the Regional music school, the French National Education System, and cultural and educational institutions operating in the greater cross-border region. Access to our events and workshops is free. Our building itself is located in the center of the city, on the Sainte-Croix hill. With foundations dating from the end of the 12th century, it is one of the oldest in Metz. Its grounds are home to a garden created by artist-botanist Liliana Motta.
