Roy Lowrance began their career in 2005 as Chairman of the Board at Hooper Holmes. Roy then moved to New York University in 2008 as a Senior Research Scientist at the Courant Institute. In 2009, they co-founded Advanced Valuation Analytics Corporation. In 2012, they became the Chief Scientist at Tresata. In 2011, they began working on the design of what became NYU's Center for Data Science, and guided its development through three Directors and hiring of seven full-time tenure-track faculty. Roy also nurtured the Center's flagship MS in Data Science program. In 2016, they founded Applied Data Science, LLC and became Chief Data Scientist at Autonomous Professional Development. In 2017, they co-founded 7 Chord to help investors and market makers in corporate bonds time the purchases and sales. In 2020, they became Chair of the Advisory Board at the University of Miami Institute for Data Science and Computing. In 2023, they began working as an Adjunct Professor at New York University.
Roy Lowrance received their BA in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University between 1968 and 1971. Roy then went on to obtain their MBA in General Management from Harvard Business School between 1977 and 1979. Finally, they completed their Ph.D. in Computer Science from New York University between 2008 and 2015.
