Ali Chowdhury has over 30 years of experience in the energy industry. Ali has held various leadership roles in companies such as Avantus, CAISO, MIDAMERICAN ENERGY COMPANY, ALBERTA POWER LIMITED, and ATLANTIC NUCLEAR SERVICES LTD.
At Avantus, they served as the Senior Vice President, Transmission, where they managed transmission and utility transmission & generation interconnection issues for the company. Ali was responsible for dealing with investor and publicly owned utilities, as well as regulatory agencies and renewable energy associations.
During their time at CAISO, Ali Chowdhury was the Director of Regional Transmission South in the Market and Infrastructure Development Division. Ali led the development and approval of over $10 billion worth of transmission projects to meet California's renewable energy goals. Ali also played a key role in developing the organization's long-term strategies and business objectives.
At MIDAMERICAN ENERGY COMPANY, they served as the Senior Engineering Management, Reliability Planning, where they provided overall direction and leadership to a team of engineers. Ali also worked with regulatory agencies and acted as an expert witness in regulatory affairs.
At ALBERTA POWER LIMITED, they held the role of Senior Engineer, System Reliability Planning, and was responsible for conducting power system studies and managing transmission capital projects. Ali also trained and supervised planning and operating engineers.
In addition, Ali Chowdhury has experience in academia, having served as a Sessional Lecturer at the University of New Brunswick, teaching graduate level courses on power system reliability assessment and reliability engineering. Ali has also conducted numerous short courses and seminars on reliability analysis and power system planning.
Prior to their career in the energy industry, they worked as an Electrical Engineer at General Electric Co. and served as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Saskatchewan.
Ali Chowdhury holds multiple degrees, including an MSc(Hon), MSc., PhD, and MBA. Ali is also a fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology), as well as a Professional Engineer.
Ali Chowdhury has a strong educational background with multiple degrees in electrical engineering and business administration. Ali obtained their Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Belarus Polytechnic Institute in Belarus from 1975 to 1980. Ali then pursued their Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan from 1981 to 1983. Continuing their academic journey, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan from 1984 to 1988. Additionally, they also attained a Masters of Science (MSc) degree in Electrical Engineering from the same university during the same period. In 2001 and 2002, Ali Chowdhury expanded their knowledge by earning a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from St. Ambrose University. Their dedication and commitment to education are evident in their diverse educational background. Moreover, their accomplishments in their field are recognized as they are a Fellow of the IEEE and the IET.
