Alice Holian

Alice Holian is a legal analyst who has been working in the field for just over a year. Alice has already made a name for herself by speaking on panels at conferences, webinars and podcasts. Before becoming a legal analyst, Alice worked as a writer for the University of Bristol Law Magazine and Dicta. During their time as a writer, they researched and wrote about controversial topics, ranging from the subjugation of the law by a political regime under Venezuelan President Maduro to challenging a wrongful legal rule in Hong Kong.

Alice has also worked in catering, bartending and retail. However, it was their work as an advocate in the Global Migration Legal Clinic at the University of Hong Kong that really developed their skills as a leader and researcher. In this role, they were responsible for researching, collecting and analysing data and statistics on employment agencies and the police. This involved qualitative and quantitative techniques such as interviewing and active investigating of the employment agencies and legal analysis of relevant cases. The outcome was a document identifying where they failed to meet their objectives as set out in the Government’s ‘Action Plan to Tackle Trafficking in Persons and to Enhance Protection of Foreign Domestic Helpers’. Subsequently, the document along with our proposed new strategies was submitted to the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. This simultaneously cultivated my leadership and teamwork skills, particularly with regards to organisation and strategic planning. I developed my non-verbal communication, written language, and research skills.

Alice Holian holds an LLB from the University of Bristol with a year abroad at the University of Hong Kong, where they were a member of the Global Migration Legal Clinic and the leader of the Advocacy team. Alice also holds an International Baccalaureate from Truro & Penwith College, where they studied History, French, Chemistry, Maths, English and Biology. Alice is currently completing a Financial Edge Training at 9fin Training 2022.
