Susan began their career as a Staff Writer at The Times of Northwest Indiana, where they covered various topics including politics, government, and schools. Susan also uncovered a case of public fund misuse by a suburban mayor.

Susan then worked as a Freelance Writer and Editor for several years, showcasing their versatile writing skills and attention to detail. During this time, they wrote and edited a range of content for different clients.

In 1998, Susan joined the Daily Herald as a Staff Writer. Susan excelled in a highly competitive market, consistently leading the competition on key news stories. Susan later became a Metro Reporter and then the Health Writer for the publication's Health & Fitness section, where they wrote consumer-oriented features on health, medicine, and fitness.

In 2008, Susan joined the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) as the Director of Media Relations. In this role, they oversaw the strategy and execution of AAP's national media relations program. During the same period, Susan also spent a year studying political science at L'Institut d'études politiques (IEP) de Paris (Sciences Po) and the Université Paris-Sorbonne, focusing on French language and history.

In 2019, Susan acquired the certification of being Accredited in Public Relations from the Universal Accreditation Board.
