Thea Sankari

Child Health Advocate at AAP

Thea Sankari has a diverse range of work experience in the field of child health and development. From 2022 onwards, they are working as a Child Health Advocate at the American Academy of Pediatrics, collaborating with the Wisconsin chapter on child health advocacy under Dr. Dipesh Navsaria. Prior to this, in 2021, they worked as a Researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Human Ecology's Child and Family Ecologies Lab, focusing on the intergenerational transmission of lead poisoning and its impact on early childhood development and school readiness in BIPOC communities.

From 2019 to 2022, Thea worked as a Medical Assistant at @21st Century Pediatrics, gaining practical experience in the medical field. In the same period (2019-2021), they also worked as a Researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Human Ecology's Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies, specializing in community and nonprofit research. During this time, they conducted research on Menominee healthcare and collaborated with the Indigenous Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin.

Before their professional roles, Thea was self-employed as a Childcare Provider from 2017 to 2020, gaining practical experience in caring for children.

Thea Sankari completed their education at the following institutions:

- From 2015 to 2019, they attended Hinsdale Central High School and obtained their High School Diploma.

- From 2019 to 2023, they studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Human Development and Family Studies.

In addition to their formal education, Thea Sankari obtained several certifications:

- In October 2021, they obtained the "Foundations of Leadership Certificate 1.0" from The National Society of Leadership and Success.

- In November 2021, they obtained the "Foundations of Leadership Certificate 2.0" from The National Society of Leadership and Success.

- In February 2020, they completed the "Community Research" certification program offered by the CITI Program.

- In September 2020, they obtained the "Social and Behavioral Research Best Practices for Clinical Research" certification from the CITI Program.

- Also in September 2020, they completed the "UW Social and Behavioral Human Subject's Research" certification from the CITI Program.
