Tom Hunter

Tom Hunter is an accomplished communications professional with extensive experience in public relations and media management, currently serving as the Associate State Director for Communications at AARP since May 2010. In this role, Tom directs the organization's media activities, collaborates with diverse stakeholders, and enhances community engagement for over a quarter-million members statewide. Prior to AARP, Tom held significant positions in state government, including Communications Director at the Ohio Department of Public Safety, where oversight included a $2.5 million budget and a team of 20, and Press Secretary for the West Virginia Governor’s Office, gaining crisis communications expertise during major mining disasters. Additionally, Tom's foundational experience includes roles at Marshall University and serving as Assistant Press Secretary for the West Virginia Governor's Office. Tom holds a degree from Marshall University.
