The company commenced its business in 1985 as a partnership with Electrolux of Sweden. The Abans Group, which commenced in the 60’s as a retail business of household equipment, has expanded its business into security, cleaning, travel agency, sale of electrical items and printing services. Today the Abans Group is a well-known business enterprise in Sri Lanka.

Abans Environmental Services has extended its operations in a separate sector under the name of ISS Abans Solid Waste Management for street cleaning and garbage collection services in 1998, and Tea Service 2003 and Facility Management Services in 2004, which has contributed substantially towards the growth and success of the company 

Abans Environmental Services (Pvt) Ltd is the only company in the field of Janitorial Maintenance and other related services such as maintenance of gardens and landscaping, Tea Service, Solid Waste Management and Pest Control Service in Sri Lanka who have achieved ISO 9001 certification for Quality Management System. 

At present Abans Environmental Services (Pvt) Ltd is the leading janitorial maintenance company in the country. The company reached this position by providing a quality cleaning service, impressing upon the clients that the lowest price does not provide better service. This concept to a certain extent has helped them to retain a large number of contracts even though there are over 100 mushroom janitorial companies in the country.
