Steven K. Burke

A founder of AbFero, Steven K. Burke is Senior Vice President, Research and Development and Chief Medical Officer of Akebia Therapeutics. Previously Dr. Burke was SVP and CMO of Proteon Therapeutics, SVP of Medical and Regulatory Affairs at Genzyme, VP of Clinical Research at GelTex Pharmaceuticals, and Associate Director at Glaxo. He worked on five drugs that were approved by FDA (Tritec, Lotronex, Renagel, WelChol, Renvela). Dr. Burke was responsible for the clinical development of the iron chelator deferitrin. Dr. Burke is a graduate of Harvard College and Weill Cornell Medical College and completed a medical residency and fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
