Bert van der Walt

Bert van der Walt is an experienced Operational Risk Manager currently with Absa Group since March 2018, focusing on implementing a Group-wide remediation approach to enhance the control environment. Prior roles include serving as Head of Governance and Reporting in Retail and Business Banking at Barclays Africa Group, where responsibilities involved managing the internal control environment, and as Head of Governance and Control in Business Banking, developing and monitoring processes to align with regulatory policies. Bert has a substantial background in operational risk, previously holding positions within Barclays and Absa, such as Operational Risk Specialist and Head of Governance and Control Reporting. Academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership Performance and Change from the University of Johannesburg, an MBA from Potchefstroom University, and various leadership-related diplomas.
