Eric J. Reading

Eric Reading oversees Abt’s global health and global development business. He brings to this role more than 25 years of experience working as an executive and social scientist in health systems, water and environment, gender equity and gender-based violence, agriculture, economic growth, governance, and digital transformation. He has helped mobilize the private sector to advance Sustainable Development Goals. His expertise includes applied political economy analysis and adaptive management. He has worked in more than 65 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

He leads more than 1,600 staff working in 45 countries on global health, climate and clean energy, governance, food security, and economic development programs. Reading oversees long-term strategy in global development. His portfolio includes global programs in private-sector health, climate, local health-systems strengthening, and malaria-vector control.

Before joining Abt Associates in 2020, Reading was the Executive Vice President for Chemonics International. He oversaw all aspects of global development business with US Agency for International Development and the Department for International Trade (now the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) and led digital transformation. As a board member, he spearheaded initiatives on impact investment and innovative finance. Previously he managed the firm’s two largest regional divisions through periods of rapid growth. He served in resident assignments in Egypt and Kosovo leading implementation of USAID programs. Reading oversaw an economic reform activity that led Georgia to become a leading business environment.
