Karen Stein has held various roles throughout their work experience. Karen began their career as an Americorps*VISTA at Boat People SOS in 2003. Karen then worked at Rutgers University, where they were a Research Assistant from 2010 to 2011, a Graduate Research Assistant from 2007 to 2008, and a Lecturer from 2006 to 2012. Following this, they worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University from 2013 to 2015. Karen then joined Westat - Improving Lives Through Research, where they were a Research Analyst from 2015 to 2018 and later became a Senior Study Director from 2018 to 2021. Currently, they hold the position of Principal Associate - Lead Methodologist at Abt Associates, starting in September 2021.
Karen Stein received their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Anthropology from James Madison University from 1997 to 2001. Karen later completed their Doctor of Philosophy degree in Sociology at Rutgers University from 2004 to 2012.
