Heather Cloninger

Heather Cloninger’s passion for public education has no bounds. She comes from a family of public-school educators and being surrounded by education helped her understand the unique needs of both students and teachers.

Elected to the Academy District 20 (ASD20) Board of Education (BOE) in 2019, Cloninger views herself as a parent first. With two of her own students attending ASD20 schools, she has developed deep relationships with district families. She values their feedback and perspective and describes herself as “a parent in the trenches.”

Cloninger has served on a multitude of school and district committees including the Yes for 3A Bond Committee. Currently she is the El Paso County Colorado field representative for Scholastic Book Fair. Her role provides her the opportunity to share new books and reading materials with students from across the Pikes Peak Region.

A native of Orem, Utah, Cloninger lived in China for a year as an exchange student, studied language and history at community college, became a nanny in Baltimore, went on a year and a half mission for her church to Hong-Kong, and studied for a year at Brigham Young University.

Cloninger and her husband Bob have been married since 2003 and are the parents of Jack and Sam. They all enjoy spending time with their dog and have weekly movie nights. She is also an avid reader and just finished "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens.
