Larry Mertz

Larry Mertz has an extensive work experience in the field of biotechnology and diagnostics. Larry currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer at Accelerate Diagnostics since April 2021. Prior to this role, they were the Senior Vice President of R&D at Meridian Bioscience Inc. from May 2018 to April 2021.

Previously, Larry held positions at Progenity, Inc. as the Vice President of R&D from March 2017 to March 2018, and at BD as the Vice President of R&D Molecular Diagnostics for BD Diagnostic Systems from 2006 to March 2016. At BD, they were responsible for managing R&D efforts in molecular diagnostics, including DNA/RNA-based testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

Before joining BD, Larry worked at Gene Logic as the Vice President of R&D and Product Development, where they led efforts in identifying new drug targets and gene expression-based biomarkers. Additionally, they have experience as an R&D Manager at Life Technologies.

Larry Mertz attended Orchard Park High School from 1976 to 1980. Later, from 1984 to 1989, they pursued their Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University at Buffalo. Additionally, during the same period, they focused on Molecular Biology as well.
