Joaquin Rodriguez Alvarez

Joaquin Rodriguez Alvarez has held a variety of roles in their career. From 2022 to present, they have been the Research Director at RMA Advisory. From 2021 to present, they have been a Member of the Board of Directors at Cátedra Manuel Ballbé - Seguridad Humana y Derecho Global. From 2019 to present, they have been an Associate Professor at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. From 2018 to present, they have been a Campaigner - Spain Coordination for the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots. From 2011 to 2018, they held two roles at Leading Cities: Community Engagement Director and Barcelona's Coordinator of Leading Cities. From 2018 to present, they have been a member of the Group of Governmental Experts of the High Contracting Parties to the CCW on LAWS at the United Nations. From 2021 to present, they have been a Researcher at the European Network Against Arms Trade (ENAAT). From 2013 to present, they have been a Researcher and Professor at Escola de Prevenció i Seguretat Integral (EPSI). From 2014 to present, they have been a Freelance Writer at Fundació Revista de Catalunya. Finally, from 2020 to present, they have been a U4SSC “Guiding Principles for Artificial Intelligence in Cities” at the International Telecommunication Union.

Joaquin Rodriguez Alvarez has a diverse educational background. Joaquin obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2015, focusing on Risk Governance, Science and Technology Studies, and Philosophy of Science. In 2010, they completed a Postgraduate program at the Centro de Altos Estudios Universitarios de la Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos in Project Design and Management. From 2007 to 2008, they pursued a MA in International Relations, Peace and Security Studies, and Islam and Politics at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals. Joaquin also earned a Licentiate degree in Bussines Management and Tourism from the Universidad de Oviedo between 2004 and 2008. Additionally, they have obtained certifications from the Universidad de A Coruna for Congress Communication and from Coursera for Critical Thinking in Global Challenges.
