Bent Jakobsen has an extensive work experience in the field of cancer therapeutics and biotechnology. Bent co-founded Immunocore Ltd in 2008 and served as the Chief Scientific Officer until February 2020. During their tenure, they focused on developing cancer therapeutics based on soluble, bi-functional T cell receptors. Immunocore entered into strategic partnerships with major pharmaceutical companies to further develop their ImmTAC programs.
In 2008, Jakobsen co-founded Adaptimmune Ltd and held various positions including Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Scientific Advisor. Adaptimmune focused on developing cancer therapeutics based on T cells transduced with T cell receptors. They conducted clinical trials and formed strategic partnerships with GlaxoSmithKline.
Jakobsen also worked at MediGene Ltd as the Senior Vice President of Research and Avidex Limited as the Chief Scientific Officer. At MediGene, they led the UK facility and was responsible for research activities related to T cell receptor engineering and therapeutics. At Avidex, they were the scientific founder and had overall responsibility for research, intellectual property, and strategic planning.
Furthermore, Jakobsen has been involved in several other companies including Accession Therapeutics Limited, SynaptixBio Ltd., Engimmune Therapeutics, Etcembly Ltd, Zelluna Immunotherapy AS, and Nextera AS. Bent held roles such as Founder and CEO, Founder and Board Member, Chairman of the Board, and Board Member in these companies.

Bent Jakobsen began their education journey at Marselisborg Gymnasium from 1975 to 1978, where they obtained a Baccelaureate degree in Science. Bent then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology from Aarhus University, which they completed from 1980 to 1984. Following their Bachelor's program, Bent continued their education at Aarhus University and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which they earned from 1984 to 1987.
