Marco Palermo has a diverse work experience in the IT industry. Marco started their career in 2005 as a Contract Professor at the Università degli Studi di Palermo. Marco then worked as a Software Design and Development professional at Graphoserv S.r.l., where they were responsible for web applications development and management of database and web server systems. In 2006, Marco worked as a Consultant and Analyst Programmer at Jeel Soc. Coop. Marco joined ACI Informatica SpA in 2007 and held various roles including Senior J2EE Developer, Program Analyst, and currently serves as the Head of Mobile e New Media department.

Marco Palermo completed their Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering from the Università degli Studi di Palermo, starting in 1997 and graduating in 2004. Marco also completed an internship in ICT at Consorzio Elis from 2005 to 2006. Prior to their university education, Marco obtained their High School Diploma from Liceo Scientifico Statale Giuseppe D'Alessandro from 1992 to 1997.

In addition to their formal education, Marco Palermo has also obtained several certifications. In November 2020, they received the ITIL® Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management from PeopleCert. In February 2019, they obtained the AgilePM® Foundation certification from APMG International, and in May 2020, they obtained the AgilePM® Practitioner certification from the same institution.

More recently, Marco obtained the EXIN DevOps Foundation certification from EXIN in March 2022, and the EXIN DevOps Professional certification in April 2022. In June 2023, they obtained the ITIL® 4 Strategist Direct, Plan and Improve Certificate from PeopleCert, as well as the ITIL® 4 Specialist High-Velocity IT Certificate in February 2023.
