Sonia Benhamed Pharmd, Smb (ASCP)

Sonia Benhamed, PharmD, SMB(ASCP) has a diverse work experience in the field of genomics and molecular pathology. Sonia is currently serving as the Executive Director of Laboratory Operations - Genetics at ACL Laboratories since 2022. Prior to this, they worked as the Director of Genomics & Advanced Technology Operations at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago from 2018 to 2022.

From 2014 to 2018, Sonia held the position of Technical Director in the Division of Genomic and Molecular Pathology at UChicago Medicine. Their earliest work experience was with GeneDx, where they worked from 2005 to 2014. During their time at GeneDx, they served as the Director of NextGen Sequencing Operations and was responsible for developing and implementing workflows for NextGen sequencing. Sonia also worked as an Associate Director in R&D and as a Senior Scientist in R&D, focusing on the development and validation of molecular diagnostic tests for rare genetic disorders.

Sonia Benhamed, PharmD, SMB(ASCP), obtained their Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Faculty Of Pharmacy in Monastir, Tunisia, where they studied from 1990 to 1996. Prior to that, they also completed a Post Graduate degree in Biology at the same institution from 1996 to 2000. Sonia holds additional certifications, including a Specialist in Molecular Biology (SBM) obtained from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in April 2022, and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate obtained from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education in August 2023.
