Kamara J.

Kamara J. currently serves as the Deputy Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at the ACLU, a position held since April 2024. Previously, Kamara held several prominent roles within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from May 2021 to March 2024, culminating as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, overseeing a substantial public affairs division and acting as the chief communications strategist on numerous key issues. Kamara's earlier experience includes leading communications for the United States Congress Joint Economic Committee, directing outreach for national non-profits at Spitfire, and serving as Communications Director for the Congressional Black Caucus. Kamara's career also features roles in federal agencies, including the GSA and HHS, and a strong foundation in journalism with degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia and The Ohio State University.
