Sarah Caldwell has a diverse work experience in the arts and cultural sector. Sarah began their career in 2001 as a Venue Coordinator for the 15/15 International Film Festival. Sarah then worked at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in various roles, including Project Officer and Teaching and Learning Coordinator. In 2007, they were a Centre Assistant at The Architecture Centre. In 2008, they became an Arts Officer at Places Victoria. Sarah then worked as an Assistant Registrar at the State Library of Victoria before joining the Arts Centre, Melbourne as a Collections Project Manager. In 2010, they worked as the Acting Registrar at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. From 2013 onwards, they held roles at ACMI, including Registrar, Head Registrar, and Head of Registration and Collections.

Sarah Caldwell's education history includes a Diploma in Law and Collection Management from the Institute of Art & Law in 2013. In 2010, they obtained a Diploma in Arts Management from RMIT University, with a focus on Arts Management, Curating Contemporary Art, Gallery and Museum Management, and Law and Arts Management. Earlier, Sarah completed a Master of Arts (MA) in Fine Arts/Cinema Studies at the University of Melbourne from 2001 to 2004. Sarah also earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) (Honours) from the University of Melbourne between 1995 and 1999.
