Andy Heffernan is a seasoned leader in the nonprofit sector, currently serving as Chief Executive of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland since May 2022, where the organization is recognized as the foremost dementia-specific service provider across the country. In addition to this role, Andy is a Board Member for both Alzheimer Europe and Acquired Brain Injury Ireland. Previously, Andy held various leadership positions, including National Secretary for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Ireland from July 2014 to May 2022, and Chief Executive at St John of God Community Services Ltd from November 2008 to December 2013. Andy's extensive experience in health and social services is complemented by a Bachelor of Science from the University of Galway, a Master’s degree from Ulster University, and a certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship & Governance from the Law Society of Ireland. Additionally, Andy has a notable background from the Defence Forces of Ireland, where roles included command and administration over a 21-year career.

The organisation helps rebuild lives that have been shattered by the trauma of brain injury, through placing a critical emphasis on client-centeredness, quality, effectiveness and value for money. Rehabilitation and clinical support are key aspects to the service.
