Gisle Aas has a diverse work experience spanning several decades. Gisle started their career in 1989 as a Research Scientist at the Norwegian Computing Center, where they worked until 1991. From 1991 to 1992, they worked at InfoMedica as a Developer, focusing on communication systems based on EDI and system development with 4GL tools. Gisle returned to the Norwegian Computing Center in 1992 as a Research Scientist and remained in this role until 1996.
In 1995, Aas joined Scandinavia Online as a Software Architect, where they led the development of the Kvasir Internet directory and search engine. Gisle was also involved in back office system development. From 1998 to 2000, they founded and operated their own company, Aas Software.
In 2000, Aas joined ActiveState as a Senior Developer, a position they held until joining the University of Bergen in 2009 as a Programmer. Throughout their career, they have been actively involved in Perl programming and has authored several modules, including LWP, while working for perl.org.
