Simon Bates is a seasoned entrepreneur and engineer, currently serving as Co-founder and CEO of Actuation Lab since July 2018. Prior to this role, Simon was an Enterprise Fellow at QTEC from November 2019 to September 2020 and participated in the Innovate UK ICURe Programme at the University of Bristol, facilitating extensive market validation for emerging technology through over 100 meetings across nine countries. Simon also co-founded Clifton Digital Manufacturing, a consultancy specializing in 3D printing for engineering components, and worked as a Research Associate at both Clifton Digital Manufacturing and the University of Bath. Simon holds a PhD in Advanced Composite Materials and a 1st class MEng in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Bristol.
