Jonathan Gyurko

Dr. Gyurko is the President and Co-Founder of ACUE and served as its CEO from its inception until 2019. Gyurko spearheaded ACUE’s earliest work with faculty, provosts, presidents, and experts to define the evidence-based teaching approaches that every college educator should possess—ACUE’s Effective Practice Framework. Together with ACUE’s chief academic officer and founding team, Gyurko devised ACUE’s online courses in effective teaching and developed ACUE’s comprehensive approach to institutional partnerships which encompasses academic, research, planning, and communications services.

Gyurko formed and maintains ACUE’s collaborations with leading higher education associations and national philanthropies including the American Council on Education, with whom ACUE’s credentials are co-issued. He co-authored ACUE’s approach to program accountability which underlies numerous studies demonstrating the positive impact of effective instruction on student outcomes. As a champion of ACUE’s college and university partners, Gyurko has worked to promote their success through hundreds of articles including major profiles in Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning.

Prior to ACUE, Gyurko spent two decades leading mission-driven efforts to create and expand educational opportunities of the highest quality for students at all levels of education in the United States and around the world. He was the inaugural Harber Fellow in Educational Innovation at Wesleyan University and an adjunct assistant professor at Teachers College, Columbia University. Gyurko holds a PhD in Politics and Education from Columbia University and was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research has been published by Harvard Education Press, NYU’s Institute for Education and Social Policy, and elsewhere. Gyurko began his career as a teacher at Tiger Kloof School in South Africa.
