Brendan Vote

Prof. Dr. Brendan Vote graduated from University of Queensland and was a medical officer in the Royal Australian Air Force for six years before commencing his ophthalmology training in Dunedin, New Zealand. He completed retinal fellowships in Auckland, New Zealand, Brighton, UK, and at Moorfield’s Eye Hospital before returning to Tasmania in 2004 where he provides services in vitreoretinal diseases, medical retina, and cataract (especially complex cataracts).

He is Clinical Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Tasmania and has over 100 peer-reviewed publications and two educational CDs. Prof. Dr. Vote established in 2008 a public benevolent institute status charity, Tasmanian Eye Institute, pursuing his passion for research and education and community service in ophthalmology. Radical truth and transparency are familiar drives for Prof. Dr. Vote’s globally impacting research such as into femtosecond laser in cataract surgery. Prof. Vote and Tasmanian Eye Institute are also committed to an ambassador role developing a CRISPR gene therapy center for Prof. Alex Hewitt in Hobart.
