Ben Cartwright has extensive work experience in the digital publishing industry. Ben worked at Adam Matthew Group from 2004 to 2011, where they held the position of Sales and Project Development. In 2011, they became the CEO of Adam Matthew Education until 2012. Ben then joined Adam Matthew in 2013 as the Head of US Sales, responsible for working with academic libraries and library consortia across North America. In 2018, they became the Executive Director of North American Sales at Adam Matthew Digital.

Ben Cartwright attended the University of York from 2000 to 2003, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Archaeology. In 2002, they briefly attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, although the specific degree and field of study are unknown.
