Arnaud Besson

Research Associate and Compound Manager at Addex Therapeutics

Arnaud Besson has a diverse work experience spanning different industries. Arnaud started their career as a Support Employee at the Direction générale des Finances publiques, where they assisted civil servants with daily tasks related to checking accounts of various public bodies. Arnaud then gained experience in the food industry as a Seasonal Worker at Snack Au Bon Accueil, gradually taking on more responsibilities from bartender to take-away seller and assistant chef.

Arnaud transitioned to the field of research and development, working as an R&D Laboratory Technician Intern at CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique. Here, they learned various techniques of biochemistry and molecular biology, including molecular cloning, protein purification, circular dichroism, surface plasmon resonance, and steric exclusion chromatography.

Arnaud further pursued their interest in biochemistry and joined Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) as an MSc Student in Biochemistry. Arnaud'sresearch focused on studying a protein-protein interaction involved in various cancers, where they conducted experiments using biophysical and biochemical assays like SPR, ITC, CD, and DSF. Arnaud collaborated with colleagues from chemistry, protein production, and structural biology, and reported their findings to a global database.

Arnaud then shifted gears and worked as a Medical Technologist at Covance, where they validated various laboratory instruments and managed the Cobas Z480 platform. Arnaud performed RNA and DNA extraction, QC validation, and testing routine, among other tasks. Arnaud also obtained a temporary position at Covance as a Medical Technologist, specializing in genotyping assays.

Most recently, Arnaud joined Addex Therapeutics as a Research Associate and Compound Manager. Arnaud'srole involved identifying GPCR agonists and antagonists' allosteric modulators using different technical methods like cell-based calcium flux assays and radioactivity binding assays. Arnaud extensively utilized various laboratory equipment and techniques, including cell culture, protein-protein interactions with FRET, and optimization and validation of cell-based assays. Arnaud also actively collaborated with different departments, reviewed scientific literature, and presented results in project meetings.

Arnaud Besson pursued their education at the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1. Starting in 2013, they obtained their Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, which took him three years to complete, finishing in 2016. Subsequently, Arnaud enrolled at the same university to pursue a Master's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, which spanned from 2016 to 2018.
