Bart Newland

Bart Newland is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in intellectual property and governance. Currently serving as a Board Member and Chair of the Governance Committee at Addgene since August 2021, Bart has previously held the position of General Counsel at Atalanta Therapeutics from April 2020 to June 2025. Bart's extensive legal background includes serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel at Biogen from December 2009 to April 2020, and Vice President of Intellectual Property at Genzyme from September 2001 to December 2009. Additional experience includes a partnership at Rothwell, Figg, Ernst & Manbeck for 13 years, and roles as Patent Counsel at WR Grace and Associate at Berman, Aisenberg and Platt. Bart holds a JD from William & Mary Law School and a BS with honors in Microbiology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
