Luis Fernandez-Luque, PhD has extensive experience in the field of digital health and research. Luis is currently serving as the Chief Scientific Officer at Adhera Health, where they lead the implementation of research strategies for their digital therapeutics platform. In this role, they combine mobile technologies with artificial intelligence to provide personalized patient support for individuals with chronic conditions.
Prior to their current position, Luis co-founded Salumedia Labs, a digital health company, where they served as the General Manager. Luis focused on advancing digital health research across various therapeutic areas. Additionally, they worked as a Scientific Advisor at Salumedia Labs.
Luis also worked as a Digital Health Researcher at the Qatar Computing Research Institute, HBKU, Qatar Foundation. In this role, they led research efforts to develop data-driven solutions for individuals with diabetes and obesity. Their work involved the integration of machine learning technology with mobile and wearable data to support decision making for healthcare professionals and patients.
Before joining the Qatar Computing Research Institute, Luis worked as an eHealth Researcher at Norut IT and the Tromso Telemedicine Laboratory for over eight years. Luis contributed to numerous digital health projects, collaborating with local healthcare stakeholders and international partners. These projects focused on social media for chronic conditions, online health communication during Ebola clinical trials, and serious games for healthy aging.
Luis also gained experience as a Visiting Researcher at Harvard Medical School and the University of Minnesota. At Harvard, they were part of the Computational Health Informatics Program, while at the University of Minnesota, they worked with the GroupLens Social Computing Research Group.
Early in their career, Luis served as an assistant researcher and developer at ITACA Centro Tecnológico, specifically in the SABIEN Research group of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Their work at ITACA involved mobile health projects for dermatology and the development of wireless sensor networks for Real-Time Location Systems in healthcare.
Luis began their research career at Sadiel as a Researcher in eHealth.
Luis Fernandez-Luque, PhD, has an extensive education history in the field of computer science. Luis obtained their Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Universidad de Sevilla in 2004. In the same year, they participated in an exchange program at the University of Applied Sciences Stralsund, focusing on Medical Informatics and Telemedicine. Luis then pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science from Universidad de Sevilla, completing it in 2006.
In 2006, they engaged in another exchange program, this time at Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), delving into Medical Informatics and Telemedicine. Luis expanded their knowledge and skills further by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science at UiT- The Arctic University of Norway from 2007 to 2014.
During their doctoral studies, they also had the opportunity to enhance their expertise as a Visiting PhD Student at Harvard Medical School in 2011. These experiences, complemented by their academic accomplishments, have shaped their expertise and contribute to their understanding of computer science and its applications.
