Katelyn Durkin has a diverse work experience. In 2021, they were a Customer Success Manager at adpets. From 2018 to 2021, they worked at the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA as an Adoption and Intake Manager and a Volunteer Manager. In these roles, they managed a team of twelve staff, increased adoptions by 18%, developed goal setting, training, and performance tracking protocols, oversaw a 600+ person volunteer program, and created content for digital and print publications. From 2012 to 2018, they worked at the University of Virginia as a Co-Director of the Civic and Community Engagement Program and a Researcher and Instructor in the Department of English. In these roles, they directed a pilot program to create experiential learning opportunities, developed interdisciplinary and public-oriented curricula, liaised with partner organizations, taught literature and writing classes, wrote a four-year analytical project, published scholarship, and presented research at interdisciplinary conferences.

Katelyn Durkin began their educational journey in 2008 when they attended William & Mary, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2012. Katelyn then continued their studies at the University of Virginia, where they received a Master of Arts in English in 2015, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in English in 2018.
