Lisa Cardenas has a long and varied work history. Lisa began their career in 1981 as a Cost Analyst for Total Petrolium Inc. Lisa then moved on to be a District Manager for Speedway LLC in 1997. In 1999, they became the Owner of The Book Shoppe. In 2003, they were a City Commissioner for the City of Alma. In 2009, they became a Bestseller for Barnes & Noble College. In 2016, they were a Candidate for Michigan's 54th District, studying policy and public issues affecting the residents of the 54th District and all of Michigan. In 2017, they became an Operations Manager for LGA IT Solutions. Most recently, in 2021, they became the Director of Operations for AdRem Systems Corporation.

Lisa Cardenas began their educational journey in 1982 when they attended Montcalm Community College and earned an Associate's Degree in Accounting. Lisa then moved on to Northwood University where they obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Management between 1990 and 1997. Finally, they completed their educational journey in 2012 when they graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology.
