Jason Bier

Chief Privacy Officer & Legal Counsel at Adstra

Jason Bier is the general counsel and chief privacy officer at Adstra. He oversees Adstra’s global legal representation in all matters, especially in the area of data privacy. This includes external industry trade relations and legislative and privacy matters relating to the digital media industry domestically and abroad. With over a decade of experience in the ad tech and marketing agency industry, Jason specializes in representing organizations that innovate and grow rapidly through the introduction of cutting-edge digital marketing services and technology. Through his roles, he has facilitated three billion dollars in mergers and acquisitions since 2008 and assisted in the development of more than eighteen utility patents. Additionally, he has been very active in formulating privacy self-regulation and establishing internal best practices for data use to balance consumer privacy with the need for data that supports the free, open Internet. This has been exhibited through his position on the Board of Directors at the Network Advertising Initiative and ongoing involvement with the Digital Advertising Alliance.

For many years, Jason has actively educated legislators on the topic of Internet privacy having visited Washington D.C. on numerous occasions to meet with Senior White House Leadership, U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senators about internet privacy, big data, the importance of third-party ad networks, real-time bidding exchanges and ad technology that supports free/low cost content through the Internet. Jason has also been a frequent speaker, quoted expert and writer on topics related directly to internet privacy, online advertising and public safety. Media includes the National Journal, MediaPost, AdAge, Politico, The Hill and networks such as Al Jazeera, Sky World News and others. Jason received the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) 2013 Service Excellence Award for his work protecting consumer privacy and IAB’s 2017 Data Rockstar Award for demonstrating excellence in data science.

Jason is the Founder, Chairman & CEO of Federation for Internet Alerts (FIA). FIA deploys the world’s largest nonprofit emergency alert network using ad tech and the cloud. In May 2019, FIA was given the Humanitarian Award by the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in May of 2019 for its work to assist 30 countries with alerts for missing children in over a dozen languages. FIA has received over a dozen accolades, including two Webby Awards, two Shorty Social Good Awards for Best Technology, and named an Innovation Finalist as well as shortlisted by the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity.

Before joining Engine Group, Jason served as General Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer of Engine Group, General Counsel & Chief Privacy Officer of Dotomi, Chief Privacy Officer of Conversant (formerly ValueClick) and Partner in the law firm Bier & Gutstein.
