James M. Kilts is a renowned leader in the consumer industry, with more than 40 years of experience leading a range of companies and iconic brands. Kilts is the founding partner of Centerview Capital Consumer, founded in 2006. He is the chairman of the board of directors of The Simply Good Foods Company and is a member of the board of directors of Pfizer Inc., where he has served since 2007, and Unifi Inc., where he has served since 2016.
Previously, Kilts served as chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of Gillette, until it merged with Procter & Gamble in 2005. At that time, he became vice chairman of the board of The Procter & Gamble Company. Prior to Gillette, Kilts served as president and chief executive officer of Nabisco from 1998 until its acquisition by The Philip Morris Companies in 2000. Before joining Nabisco, he served in a number of senior leadership roles, including executive vice president of The Philip Morris Companies, president of Kraft USA and Oscar Mayer. He also served as chairman of the board of Nielsen Holdings N.V. from 2011 to 2014 and chairman of the supervisory board of the Nielsen Company B.V. from 2009 to 2014. He was a member of the board of directors of Big Heart Pet Brands from 2011 to 2015, during which time he served as chairman; MetLife Inc. from 2005 to 2020, MeadWestvaco from 2006 to 2014, The New York Times Company from 2005 to 2008, May Department Stores from 1998 to 2005 and Whirlpool Corporation from 1999 to 2005. He also served as chairman of the board of the Grocery Manufacturers Association from 2003 to 2005 and Delta Airlines from 2002 to 2004. He is a former member of Citigroup’s International Advisory Board.
