Michael Hughes is an experienced medical professional serving as an Associate Professor and Head of the Clinical School at The Australian National University since May 2021. Additionally, Michael holds the position of Clinical Director for the Division of Surgical Services at Sydney Adventist Hospital, where leadership is provided for multiple critical areas including surgery and anaesthetics. As Chairman of the Section of Surgical Oncology at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons since May 2018 and a Surgical Oncologist with Adventist HealthCare Limited since September 2000, Michael demonstrates a strong commitment to clinical excellence and governance. Previously, Michael served as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, managing academic and financial aspects of the Clinical School, and contributed expertise as a Surgical Oncologist at Westmead Hospital. Michael's educational background includes a First Class Honours MBBS from the University of Sydney and completion of FRACS in General Surgery.
