Laura Butler

Laura Butler has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Laura started their career in 2008 as a Foster Parent Support Specialist at The Martin Pollak Project. Laura then worked as a Legislative Fellow at the U.S. House of Representatives in 2009. From 2010 to 2011, Laura served as a Community Outreach Manager at Kaplan Virtual Education and as a Family Trainer/Supervisor at The League for People with Disabilities. In 2014, they worked as an Emergency Department Mental Health Clinician at MedStar Health. Laura joined AFSCME Maryland Council 3 in 2011 and served as the Vice President representing the Department of Health until 2017. Laura also worked as a Psychiatric Social Worker at Spring Grove Hospital Center under the State of Maryland from 2011 to 2017. From 2018 to 2022, Laura served as the Manager of Allied Health Services at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Laura then worked as the Regional Manager of Behavioral and Social Determinants of Health at AbsoluteCare from 2022 to 2023. Currently, Laura is the Director of Care Navigation at Adventist HealthCare, where they started in June 2023.

Laura Butler has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Goucher College, which they obtained from 2000 to 2004. Laura then pursued a Master of Social Work (MSW) with a specialization in Macro Practice from Howard University, completing it from 2008 to 2010. Their educational journey also includes a Professional Development program in Autism Studies at Penn State University from 2005 to 2008. Currently, Laura is pursuing a Master of Health Administration at The George Washington University- Milken Institute School of Public Health, expected to be completed from 2021 to 2023. Additionally, they hold a certification as a Licensed Certified Social Worker with Supervisor Designation from the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
