Associate Director For Racial Justice In Sex Education at Advocates for Youth

Nakisha T. Floyd, Ph.D, MA, MEd, CHES has extensive experience in health education and program management. Nakisha T. is currently serving as the Associate Director for Racial Justice in Sex Education at Advocates for Youth, where they coordinate professional development opportunities and develops resources for racial justice in sexuality education. Prior to their current role, they worked as an Adjunct Instructor at North Carolina Central University, teaching health and wellness concepts to students. Nakisha T. also held the position of Adolescent Health Director at the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education, where they provided leadership and directed the implementation of the adolescent health education program. Furthermore, they have served in various roles at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, including Reproductive Health Consultant and Educational Consultant in areas such as physical activity, nutrition, tobacco, and sexuality education. Dr. Floyd also has experience as a Health Education Program Coordinator and Health Educator at Wayne Memorial Hospital, where they developed, implemented, and evaluated health education interventions. In addition, they worked as a Continuing Education Instructor at Wayne County Community College, delivering motivational and life skills training to substance abusers. Dr. Floyd's expertise lies in the field of health education, specifically focusing on racial justice in sexuality education and adolescent health.

Nakisha T. Floyd, Ph.D, MA, MEd, CHES has an extensive education history. The most recent degree they are pursuing is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University, from 2017 to 2023. Prior to this, they completed a Master of Education (MEd) in Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University from 2014 to 2017.

In 2009, Nakisha earned a Certificate in Public Health Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Nakisha T. also holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Health Education and Health Promotion from East Carolina University, obtained from 2006 to 2008. Additionally, they received a Certificate in Family Life Education Institute from Appalachian State University in 2006.

Nakisha's educational journey began at North Carolina Central University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Public Health Education and Promotion from 1994 to 1998.

In addition to their formal education, Nakisha has obtained several certifications. Nakisha T. is a National Certified Health Education Specialist, obtained from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc in October 2009. Nakisha T. is also an NC Registered Health Educator, certified by the NC Board of Registry for Health Education, since January 2002.
