Originally from Philadelphia, Michael Koerner studied chemical engineering at Drexel and Princeton universities. He then joined DuPont Automotive, now Axalta Coatings. Most of Mike’s early career was spent formulating basecoats for automotive OEM customers like Honda and Toyota. After a five-year assignment in Germany, he transitioned to technology development. As a subject matter expert for waterborne paint formulations, Mike lead a research group to develop next generation technology for coatings with higher productivity, lower bake temperatures, and digital application. Mike is married with two adult children and enjoys many outdoor activities.
After 34 years working in automotive paint research, Mike elected to move with Aero Aggregates and process control for the manufacture of foamed glass aggregates (FGA). It's been a fresh start working with a sustainable product in a rapidly developing market. Processing of FGA includes a nice mix of chemistry, physics, and engineering principles. It's very gratifying to see your process improvements literally rolling off the line one hour after implementation.
