Eric D. Schmid

Eric D. Schmid, PhD, currently serves as a Senior Research and Development Engineer at Aerostar, focusing on polymer and composite materials testing for lighter than air product development. With extensive experience in materials engineering, Schmid has held positions at various organizations, including Manager of the Electrospinning Research Lab at Nanopareil and Product Development Engineer at Raven Engineered Films. Schmid has contributed to notable projects at NASA Glenn Research Center, Kennedy Space Center, and BLUE ORIGIN, alongside teaching as an adjunct faculty member at Augustana University. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Nanoscience & Nanoengineering from South Dakota Mines, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of North Dakota, and a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics from the University of Jamestown. Additionally, Schmid is an active USA Softball umpire, officiating at national championship tournaments since 2006.
