Alvaro Valencia

Alvaro Valencia is a seasoned professional in mergers and acquisitions, currently serving as Director of Mergers & Acquisitions at The AES Corporation since September 2015. In this role, Alvaro leads global initiatives including mergers, acquisitions, and the execution of the organization’s decarbonization strategy. Significant achievements include the sale of a 30% interest in AES Ohio and the acquisition of the Madison Solar project in Virginia. Prior roles at AES included Senior Associate and Manager, where Alvaro successfully managed investments in renewable energy projects across Mexico and the US. Earlier experience includes serving as Vice President of Investment Banking at The Network Company, advising major transactions. Alvaro holds advanced degrees from prestigious institutions including HEC Montréal, and the University of Oxford, and has completed an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from MIT Sloan.
