Ami Kealoha

Branded and Custom Content Director at AFAR

Ami Kealoha has extensive work experience in content strategy and creative execution. Ami began their career in 2002 as an Intern at Gen Art SF. Ami then became a Contributing Editor at ReadyMade Magazine, where they sourced, developed and coordinated editorial content from initial concepts to final production. In 2004, they were hired as a Reporter at New York Magazine, where they pitched, researched, wrote and revised news, reviews and features. In 2005, Ami became Editorial Director at Cool Hunting, where they ideated, edited and wrote editorial content spanning culture, design and technology. Ami also recruited, hired and managed a global team of writers, photographers, filmmakers and interns. In 2011, Ami was hired as Creative Director at PMK•BNC, where they led content strategy and creative execution for clients such as American Express, Audi, Cole Haan, Habitual Denim, Ketel One and Pepsi. In 2018, Ami became Head Of Content at HYPNO, where they led the technology platform’s marketing across paid, earned and owned channels. Since 2015, Ami has also been working as a Freelance Director/Editor, overseeing the strategy of video and content programs for clients including Cadillac, Facebook, Gap, Hearst, Nike and Microsoft. In 2020, they were hired as Branded and Custom Content Director at Afar Media.

Ami Kealoha attended the University of California, Berkeley from 1999 to 2002, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies: American Studies and Film/Rhetoric. Ami also attended the University of Chicago from 1998 to 1999, studying Humanities/Humanistic Studies.
