Kevin Karuga

Kevin Karuga has extensive work experience in the legal and compliance field. Kevin is currently working at Africa's Talking as the VP- Legal and Group Data Protection Officer, where they oversee the company's group legal, compliance, and governance functions globally. Kevin also serves as the Group Data Protection Officer, developing and monitoring policies and standards in compliance with applicable laws.

Prior to their current role, Karuga worked at Africa's Talking as the Group Legal, Compliance, and Governance Officer, focusing on corporate governance, legal advisory, and compliance across the company's operations in Africa. Kevin ensured that the company and its subsidiaries upheld and maintained best practices and international standards of corporate governance.

Before joining Africa's Talking, Karuga worked at Stanbic Bank Kenya. Kevin held the position of Legal Officer, Corporate Governance, where they were responsible for ensuring proper corporate governance for the Stanbic Group of companies. Kevin worked closely with regulators to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.

Karuga also worked as a Legal Assistant and Share Registrar in the Company Secretary Department at Stanbic Bank Kenya. Kevin assisted the Group Company Secretary in fulfilling regulatory and corporate governance requirements. This included filing annual returns and organizing annual general meetings. Kevin also participated in board meetings and took minutes.

Earlier in their career, Karuga served as an Assistant Legal Counsel in the Legal and Compliance Department at Stanbic Bank Kenya.

Overall, Karuga has demonstrated their expertise in legal, compliance, and governance throughout their career, consistently ensuring compliance with regulations and implementing best practices in corporate governance.

Kevin Karuga has a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from Kabarak University. Kevin also completed the Advocates Training Programme at Kenya School of Law, where they obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Law. Additionally, they hold a master's degree in Public Policy and Administration from Kenyatta University.

In terms of additional certifications, Kevin completed Data Protection Training at Lawyer's Hub in October 2022. Kevin also completed a Legal Audit and Compliance Course at Kenya School of Law in November 2019. In November 2016, they participated in the Corporate Governance Master Class for CEO's & Senior Executives of listed companies on the Code of Corporate Governance for Issuers of Securities to the public, offered by the IFC - International Finance Corporation. Furthermore, in February 2016, they completed the Corporate Governance for Financial Institutions Training at Dorion Associates LLP.

Lastly, Kevin Karuga is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, having obtained this title from The Kenya School of Law.
